One of my favorite movies by one of my favorite actors who by most accounts was a decent man (married to the same woman for 62 years!) who stayed out of the cesspool of Hollywood. Cagney was an absolute force in this film.
I might suggest another underrated film that features Cagney at his best (an made just before Yankee Doodle Dandy) - The Strawberry Blonde. Great ensemble cast and great themes.
One quibble with the review - it’s Co-han (as in "hand). I’ve heard the accent on either syllable. In any event, George M was not kosher but Catholic.
