The Family Table

Family meals and devotions should not be guilt trips. Keep them simple and focus on what you and your family enjoy most. Many husbands perform at the dinner table and during devotions to meet their wives’ expectations and aspirations

Ouch!
Many husbands, including me, have also been guilty of performing to meet their own expectations. My wife was a great help in encouraging me not to have unrealistic expectations, and to “keep them simple.”

Thank you for this reminder

Responding to podcast The Family Table, one brother comments that he thinks it’s wrong to make a child eat something he dislikes. I respond:

Children dislike many, many things we require of them. There’s no reason food should be the exception. The father who abandons his children to their taste preferences is himself selfish.

Don’t be rude to the hostess. Make the Little Emperor take a small spoonful as act of gratitude to hostess. Food is fundamental to the formation of your son’s character. Use it.
