Roman Catholicism is syncretistic to its core

Tim Keller calls it cultural elasticity. :man_facepalming:

Yet Keller never stops accusing fellow Christians of “tribalism,” often precisely at the points where his brothers and sisters are calling the sins of their culture out and commanding obedience, rather, to God’s One Truth. And yes, bend to Him. Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind… When contextualization hides compromise and betrayal.

It just seems absurd, even for the likes of Tim Keller, to 1. cite an advantage of Christianity as if it needed advantages, 2. to make the advantage elastisity as if Christianity needed to be molded, and 3. to identify the nature of the elasticity as cultural as if Culture had some sort of inherent value.

This syncretism is how the Roman Catholic Church made inroads into central and south america with it’s humanist liberation theology.
