Tonight I came across this article by the late, infamous Daniel Dennett: an academic profile of five Protestant ministers who secretly do not believe the doctrines they preach. I found it in turns revealing, repulsive, and rousing of the fear of God. Some here may perhaps likewise find it a worthwhile read.
“There are people (a great many of them) who are slowly ceasing to be Christians but who still call themselves by that name: some of them are clergymen”. C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.
Forty years on and that sketch is still hilarious … scarily so. (Yes, Prime Minister was a TV comedy in the 1980s in Britain that was regarded at the time as an all-too-accurate assessment of how the British Civil Service worked … and still works).
