New Warhorn Media post by Tim Bayly:
Saturday, I read the book āThe View from the Hearseā by Joe Bayly and was struck by this quote, āWe donāt own our children; we hold them in trust for God, who gave them to us.ā then a little later āBut God may relieve us of the trust at any time, and take our children to His home.ā It reminded me of this letter from Rutherford that Matt Shifflet shared with us during our Biblical Counseling class.
What a beautiful and sobering reminder for us parents.
And a modern British worship song which makes that point about the Lord āgiving and taking awayā ā¦
(You guys might have come across it already? At any rate, the song seems to have spoken to the situations of people who have lost children).
love that hymn!
One of the greatest testaments to faith that I have seen is a father singing this song in worship in front of the casket of his two-year old daughter.

Lyrics:
Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name
Blessed Be Your name
When Iām found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name
Every blessing You pour out
Iāll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be Your name
When the sunās shining down on me
When the worldās āall as it should beā
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though thereās pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name
Every blessing You pour out
Iāll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
ā¦
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
(You give and take away)
Blessed be Your name
(You give and take away)
Blessed be the name of the Lord
(My heart will choose to say)
Blessed be Your glorious name ā¦
