I think we are seeing theater movies split into actual films and theme park rides.* This movie is a theme park ride. It’s a pretty good ride (my theater seemed to find it thrilling and funny, and IMAX/van Hoytema was a treat, visually) but there is almost no reason someone should watch this ten years from now. Certainly no one will be looking forward to the day they can watch this with their kids. Contrast that with the Labor Day weekend Jaws IMAX re-release that was advertised before the movie.
* (And streaming movies are splitting into actual films and background scenery.)
