The underlying, preceding, and fatal temptation: wanting to be relevant. I saw this in the early eighties when I was at university and at the time the cause du jour was nuclear peacemaking.

The other problem: working with the arts community is seen as cool. Working with the poor, also, but at least there is more of a Biblical warrant to do so.
