Agreed; I would say that the Church’s record at speaking truth to power seems to be a lot stronger than its record in exercising power - e.g. when Cromwell’s Interregnum fell in 1660, the returning Charles II was welcomed with open arms, and Puritanism has been something of an unwanted child in English church culture since.

I tried to find an old Joe Sobran column where he made largely the same point Pastor Tim is making here, but the search function at Sobran’s old site does not work so well. I can’t provide a link, but I do remember the column.
