From experience, admittedly as a lay-preacher: record your sermons and listen to them - I found this very helpful in my own preparation, especially because what was written down in my notes was often not quite the same as what was said on the day.

An old British university joke is that, “a lecture is a way of passing knowledge from the notes of the professor to the notes of the student without passing through the minds of either”. We do not want this to happen in our own preaching of the Word!
