New Warhorn Media post by Aaron Prelock:
‘By his ascension Jesus declares to the whole earth that he is Lord of all things, and that to him are subject all things that are in heaven and on earth.’ The ascension is a declaration of authority, of victory, of power.
More work needs to be done on Christ’s exaltation and mediatorial reign, especially since ‘Christ is King’ has been co-opted as an overtly political phrase (not just by Moscow). Every Christian assents to the same doctrine: He reigns now, has all authority now. But current earthly expectations are where there is divergence, and it makes a huge practical difference. I’ve been content to simply point out that Jesus has no less authority over a person/people/nation that do not repent than He does over those who do:
All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Matt 11.27
Gospel postmills understand this, and submit to the mysterious providence of God over history.
