Weird behavior equals idolatry? I’m not following. You and I can roll our eyes at it maybe, but was that the law there? Are they simple folk that follow laws? Like maybe they also uselessly follow the speed limit even when there’s no one else around for it to effect (affect?). Liberals railing all over the place and being crazy about face masks is another issue. They have all kinds of idols, and face masks may well be another. But what does that have to do with the discussion of Christians wearing face masks? Or elders and pastors carefully deciding where to come down on this issue? The question is how is that idolatry?
I’ll preface this by saying I have read many of Wilson’s books, and have profited immensely from them.
However, his rhetoric around climate change is just over the top, IMO.
In one passage (and forgive me for not having the source before me), he discusses the stupidity of those who worry about running out of water. Says that if this happened some enterprising teenager will discover how to desalinate ocean water and become a rich man. Or something like that. Now I’m not disagreeing with him on the particular issue, but the idea that humans can infallibly innovate themselves out of their messes just seems a faith based assertion. I am grateful this is often the case, but it is not a sufficient response to a call for the prudent use of resources.
