New Warhorn Media post by Tim Bayly:
When I was a seminarian 40 years ago, we called CT Christianity Astray. Back then it was so easy to see the wheels had departed the rails, heading with great momentum toward a very deep and devilish ditch.
That CT has prospered over the past 40 years is definitive evidence that in that long-ago derailed train rode most of evangelicalism’s leaders - especially its pastors, who faithfully guided their sheep into the ditches into which they had derailed.
David was correct to be discouraged.
I have been discouraged for many decades now. I’ve gotten to the point where I wish I had a genuinely useful term to denote my identity in the spiritual/ecclesiastical spectrum. I don’t want to call myself an evangelical. It calls up ideas, forms, styles, and patterns of behavior that I utterly despise.
