Good episode. For what it’s worth, I’d be willing to pay real money for recorded lectures of Brandon’s poetry class. Maybe a future project for Warhorn Media?

I’ve never heard that more men than women like poetry, and that hasn’t been my experience either, so this was kind of a strange episode for me. I had a hard time understanding Meredith & Anna’s reasoning, or the claim of woman’s greater practicality.
Am I the odd one out, and I just haven’t noticed?
Most everybody with whom I talk about poetry says the same thing- or an iteration- they don’t understand it. Doesn’t matter if it’s a man or a woman, they don’t know what to do with poetry, or even how to begin to read it. And I’m hardly an expert; very much an amateur, so I don’t have much help for them except to point to good poets and suggest reading it aloud multiple times. So I really enjoy the Bookening episodes on poetry, and learning a bit more from Brandon, especially.
Nathan’s bit about poetry shaping us and teaching us how to feel was spot on. Very good.
