George Horne (1786): “Pertness and ignorance may ask a question in three lines, which it will cost learning and ingenuity 30 pages to answer. When this is done, the same question will be triumphantly asked again the next year as if nothing had ever been written on the subject.” (H-T Seth P)

Boy, isn’t that the truth

Thanks, that makes things clearer. And there is no way that the gay community or communities will admit to this either.

Think abt this headline today: “Tesla is now worth more than GM, Ford, Toyota, and other car companies — combined” Having South Africans as in-laws (Elon Musk is South African), what I’ve noticed is their can-do approach to life. “Sure, we can do that. It’s not difficult. Let’s do it!” And they do.

Read this this morning in a tree stand (at least a got something valuable from those hours). Very edifying. But also left me with questions.

I communicate aggressively and am constantly working to communicate less aggressively. But there are times for evaluation and criticism. I think one likely response to this article is to better mask actual evaluation, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the author’s point.

Is his target those who, like me, default to an antagonistic form of communication without realising it, or those who (wrongly) think they’re clever enough to give criticism without the recipient realising it? At times I thought he was dealing with aggressive types, and other times I thought he was dealing with passive-aggressive types.

Hard to believe who PresTrump is choosing for cabinet. Nominee for SecDefense, Pete Hegseth, says: “The dumbest phrase on planet Earth in the military is our diversity is our strength.”

Says he’ll be firing Pentegon’s top WOKE brass.

Maybe too late

My take was that it was talking about both things: If you don’t care about others, they’ll hate you for it, but if you pretend to care, they’ll hate you even more.

And if you really do care but you’re really bad at it?

Sucks to be you. lol

Oh, wait. Was that too superior, evaluative, and certain?

No, it struck a really good balance. Truth hurts, but it’s a good kinda hurt.

NOTE ADDED Nov. 16: I no longer am pleased that Mr. Hegseth is nominated. He was not properly vetted and we’ll see what the future holds.

It seems that Matt Gaetz wasn’t properly vetted either!

Since I commended Mr. Hegseth’s nomination before knowing of his past, I’m posting this comment here reversing my commendation.

Brothers and sisters, you all are free to support Mr. Hegseth, as you full well know. But I’m a pastor and wish I hadn’t publicly endorsed him before I knew more of his background. Certainly the repentant can be restored to the Lord’s Table, but care should be taken to establish a substantial number of years of good fruit before putting a man of such a history in the fairly recent past in such a high profile and highly conflictual position of leadership. His position will be exceedingly dangerous, but no one has said a word about this. No concern for the man’s soul.

His pastor thinks it’s just wonderful, apparently (based on what you all are reporting in the comments). That’s what I would expect, but this is not an ecclesiastical matter. It’s a matter of public policy and I have my judgments as a citizen who has spent many years in pastoral care. If you disagree, no problem. I’m just reversing my celebration of his nomination. Love,

Men still upset at my withdrawing my expression of pleasure at Mr. Hegseth’s nomination. One asks whether there’s any place for pastors to endorse political candidates? I responded:

To say I do or don’t appreciate a nominee is no political endorsement. Unlike public office, we are not doing the nominating or voting on this one. I first said I was pleased with the nomination of Mr. Hegseth, then withdrew my statement of pleasure. That’s it.

As to whether a pastor or elder or deacon should endorse pols for elections, I have never thought it is inappropriate. After all, pastors should uniquely understand the fear of God and authority of His Moral Law such that we are in a proper position to apply that fear and authority to our public life. Part of serving as a pastor is speaking prophetically in the public square, let alone exhorting one’s own sheep to use their vote in a way that honors God.

The IRS says this violates their laws. I’ve always said, "So be it. Come and get us. We’ll pay the price.”

I’ve had another of our church’s pastors (not recently) warn me against speaking politically for fear of losing our nonprofit status. Responded that I would not submit to the IRS sabre-rattling on this matter. Today, every moral issue is seen as political, and we must reject the premise. It is to gag God’s servants.

When pastors preaching and Bible publishers all avoid “man,” instead neutering Scripture to say “humans” and “persons” and “people,” media follows their lead. Jones not charged w/abusing “people,” but men. Bibles form language and language forms thought.

It was easy for me to support a sinful man like Trump for president, as I believe he has been uniquely gifted to be a legitimate stopgap between the woke, Marxist, God hating mobs, and the average American. Do I like Trump’s indiscretions, his pride, his lack of dignity at times? No. But I do like the fact that I think with him in office, I have a better chance to live peaceably in the land. Some say the Presidential election is really inconsequential, that the office is merely a figurehead, or placeholder, that the real movers and shakers are the congress, and local politics. May be true, but it seems that the dems billion dollar losing campaign says otherwise.
That said, I can vote for a Trump, AND be opposed to a Pete Hegseth and not be inconsistent. Trump is the firewall, Pete Hegseth is not. There are surely other men with Pete Hegseth’s skill set who have less baggage and downside. While I am not privy to intimate details of Hegseth’s background, there seems to be enough information about him floating around in articles and such for me to pause on him and weigh if he is someone I could support.
