If a man you looked up to confesses his adultery, remember David was a man after God’s Own heart. The point of sanctification is not getting to the day, here on earth, where one has nothing to confess, but where, each day, one has more to confess. The kindness of God leads us to repentance.

“Queer” woman put out meme of pic of PresTrump w/four lines superimposed:

NO GODS,
NO MASTERS
NO KINGS
NO PASTORS

Perfect summary of Spirit of our Age. Some might quibble over whether “no gods” is as prevalent as other three? It is. Feminism is not rebellion against men but against God the Father.

Another warning against the I/Me/Mine natavists:

"Assuming that no God exists, no eternity, no accounting, then the official Christianity is a perfectly charming and elegant invention for very sensibly making this life as enjoyable as possible, more enjoyable than the pagan could have it. For it is well known that what constantly troubled the pleasure-loving pagan was this thing of eternity; but the official Christianity put such a slant upon this thing of eternity that eternity exists precisely for the sake of giving us a thorough relish and zest for enjoying this life.

“Just as if one of the composers who compose variations upon one or more movements of a funeral march were to take occasion to compose with free poetic license a dashing gallop—so has the official Christianity taken occasion from some sentences in the New Testament (this doctrine of a cross and anguish and horror and shuddering before eternity) to compose with free poetic license a lovely idyl, with procreating of children and waltzes, where everything is “so joyful, so joyful, so joyful,” where the priest (a kind of leader of the town band) is willing, for money, to let Christianity (the doctrine of dying unto the world) furnish the music for weddings and christenings, where everything is joy and mirth in this (according to the teaching of Christianity, a vale of tears and a penitentiary), this glorious world (yea, according to the New Testament it is a time of probation related to an accounting and judgment), a foretaste of the still more joyful eternity which the priest guarantees to those families which by their devotion to him have evinced a sense for the eternal.”

C.S.Lewis:

“When a man is getting better he understands more and more clearly the evil that is still left in him. When a man is getting worse he understands his own badness less and less. A moderately bad man knows that he is not very good; a thoroughly bad man thinks he is all right” (from Mere Christianity).

From today’s Chronicle of Higher ED.

No, Bloom taught no one to be suspicious or cynical abt Higher Ed. He simply wrote a book documenting what we’d all experienced. It was priceless! Here a gay U of Chicago philosophy prof stripped Higher Ed naked. Profs hated him for it, and do still. Read it The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today's Students: Bloom, Allan: 9781451683202: Amazon.com: Books

This is so evil, that Christians’ taxes are used to kill little babies. This is the sort of wicked Sodom we live in here in Bloomington. I wish I were righteous as was Righteous Lot, but I do gnash my teeth. I wish some solidarity of Christians would start taking public action and rid this city of two things: any at all future use of tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood and the Kinsey Institute. Wickedness upon wickedness.

As usual, my dear brother Scott Tibbs stands in the city gates crying out agains these things, and we all owe him a decades-long debt of gratitude.

Speaking of Scott Tibbs, was thinking how he & my Dad were never pundits.

Pundits aim at interesting but Scott aims at bearing witness to God. Loves his neighbor by warning & exhorting him.

Pundits write for themselves to be known.

The witness writes for God to be known.

One regrettable fad across reformed microworld is smearing empathy as “sin.” It was judgment of some this smear was merely self-justification among men who wish they could call compassion “sin.”

Another warning against I/Me/Mine natavist nationalists:

“And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he delivered Jesus to their will” (Luke 23:25).

Still today, God’s people choose kingdom of man over Kingdom of God.

For years, Christians’ impatience w/pastoral warnings has been sobering…

The Apostle Paul explained his pastoral care for the Ephesians by saying, you know how I was when I was among you. I never stopped warning you. House to house. Day and night. With tears.

Warnings are the constant work of a shepherd as he feeds, waters, and protects the sheep. Some sheep despise warnings. They dismiss the shepherd as stupid, dyspeptic, small-minded. They have larger horizons than this limited and insecure man.

Wise men listen to pastors’ warnings, taking them to heart. The Ephesian elders loved the Apostle Paul for his warnings.

By their fruit ye shall know them.

It has always been true that every Christian is obligated to put God’s Law first across his life, and to seek the establishment of leaders in church and society with this same commitment. As I’ve said to civil authorities in my congregation, God takes precedence over party, and most especially over legal precedents which are by God’s decree lawless.

This is not Christian nationalism. It is something infinitely larger—Christian discipleship.

At our Thanksgiving tables, it is fitting to explain to our loved ones and guests that Thanksgiving Day is our most American holiday. Keeping in mind the food is hot, some brief explanation of this feast followed by a hymn and prayer of thanksgiving should be given, such as:

Our nation’s spiritual destiny was firmly planted and anchored there on Plymouth Rock, autumn of 1621, when the Pilgrims threw a harvest feast in celebration of God’s great kindness. There that day, they acknowledged and gave thanks to Him for His nature’s bounty, and also for their brother in Christ, Squanto, whose Christian compassion led him to teach them what they needed to learn to survive in this New World. Squanto was not the only native American present, but by invitation of the Pilgrims, 90 other of Squanto’s fellow Wampanoag (pr. waam·puh·NOW·ag) tribesmen were present and feasting with the 50 or so Pilgrims.

On that day, God’s providence toward this small band of Christians who had gone on pilgrimage in pursuit of religious freedom was acknowledged, and He was praised and worshipped.

As the years passed, that day began to be commemorated as our national Thanksgiving Day, and so here we join together in continuing to give thanks as the Pilgrims did before us.

Now let us praise our Heavenly Father by singing together, “Come Ye Thankful People Come”:

1 Come, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home:
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin;
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home.

2 All the world is God’s own field,
Fruit unto His praise to yield;
Wheat and tares together sown,
Unto joy or sorrow grown:
First the blade, and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear:
Grant, O harvest Lord, that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.

3 For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take His harvest home;
From His field shall in that day
All offences purge away;
Give His angels charge at last
In the fire the tares to cast,
But the fruitful ears to store
In His garner evermore.

4 Even so, Lord, quickly come
To Thy final harvest-home;
Gather Thou Thy people in,
Free from sorrow, free from sin;
There, forever purified,
In Thy presence to abide:
Come, with all Thine angels, come,
Raise the glorious harvest-home.

Conclude with a prayer of thanksgiving and praise to that same God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—Whom the Pilgrims led the Wampanoag in honoring and praising back in 1621.

(It is fitting this short explanation, song, and prayer be led by the host. It is also helpful to have small sheets of paper with the words of the hymn at each place setting.)
