From what I can see there is a tendency, and not only in Reformed families, for parents to think that if they do the right thing, their children will turn out well, that their daughters will not end up as feminists, and their sons will not end up as malakoi of whatever sort. This is to confuse a necessary condition - the wise counsel Tim provides above about bringing up children in the fear and admonition of the Lord - with a sufficient condition (that this will always have the desired result).
Remember to keep praying in this for John as well. But then, he’s not alone, as this article about Mark MacArthur, John MacArthur’s son, indicates:
