Bayly's daily

Yesterday thinning peaches, removed & tossed 2 of every 3. Peaches strewn on ground. Seems like such a waste. Thought abt God pruning His sons/daughters.

Pruning/thinning are part of God’s creational DNA. Those whom He loves He disciplines.

Prune your little ones.

It’s been going on every weekend since I was a boy. Black lives never matter in Chicago. Pres Obama is a homeboy and he ain’t done nothing abt it. Chicago shootings this weekend: At least 109 shot, 19 fatally, in July 4th holiday weekend gun violence across city, CPD says - ABC7 Chicago

Going through the same thing in my front yard….what doesn’t have mold, is full of bite marks from squirrels. They don’t seem content with the peaches on the ground. What looks like good fruit from the ground, winds up half eaten on the backside. Definitely seems like it isn’t worth it.
Can a good peach tree produce bad fruit?
I’m contemplating chopping them down and throwing them in the fire.

After 14 years, I have yet to eat a peach from my peach tree. Often thought about cutting it down.

My grandfather often said that the birds would eat his berries exactly one day before he would. He’d sample the berries as they’d ripen and one day he’d think, “OK, these will be ripe tomorrow”, and the birds would eat them all that day.

Who wants to speak negatively of men who have died?

Yet the Presbyterian Church in America’s Covenant Theological Seminary “Magazine” just reported, “We were pleased to host the return of the David C. Jones Theology Lectures in February-March 2024. The lectures are named in honor of the late Dr. David C. Jones long-time Professor of Systematic Theology & Ethics at Covenant to celebrate his legacy & that of the Seminary’s Reformed theological heritage.”

Um. Uh. This David Jones was the Covenant professor who in “Christianity Today” October of 1999 was interviewed publicly and called for the repeal of all sodomy laws—declaring men sodomizing one another “is not the state’s business.”

Well, he got his way and Obergefell & Revoice followed.

Yet today, the PCA’s Covenant Theological Seminary pays annual tribute to this man.

The PCA is clueless or their craven. Take your pick.

I should add that the post-mil, theonomist, Christian Nationalists’ heroes were nowhere to be seen or heard when I tried to fight this battle.

Realize that the letter and post mentioned above which I wrote a quarter century ago received radio silence from absolutely everyone.

Professor of ethics huh? That makes it even worse.

Make this of it: The right’s role in western politics is that of designated loser. American Republicans are allowed to govern poorly (think Hurricane Katrina), be traitors to their constituents (the Strange New Respect meme), and lose gracefully (the John McCain model). Any time the right gets it in their heads that they might like to wield power to threaten Left gains, the entire Leftist-industrial complex goes into full freak-out mode.

And make no mistake: America’s bureaucracy is a major Leftist stronghold. The bureaucracy was probably the main reason why Trump’s first term was a bust. It’s impossible for the President to be in charge of the executive branch if he’s opposed at every turn by unelected bureaucrats who act like a fourth branch of government.

Project 2025 is nothing more or less than a plan by rightists to wield the power delegated to them by the American people (in the event of a Republican win in ‘25) in the same manner that every Democratic administration has done since at least FDR.

Thus: a freak-out.

If the Left didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any standards at all.

No one should be surprised the Republican Party under Pres Trump just threw abortion under the bus. The real surprise was the pro-life influence VP & Mrs. Mike Pence exerted on Pres Trump during his previous administration.

God be praised for that! Thank you Mr/Mrs Pence.

Reading Augustine yesterday, he was warning how City of God is intermingled w/City of Man until Final Judgment. He illustrated point saying many in church Sundays are in the theater during week. His point was the hypocrisy of it. Gut punch. Read City of God.

I think of people parading their never-Trumpism as similar to the waiters who always find the earliest opportunity to tell you and the rest of the people at the table that they’re vegan.

The principle utility of not voting for Pres Trump is being able to tell people you refuse to vote for Trump.

It’s not polite to announce to people that your armpits are clean, but they think it’s polite to tell everyone their votes are clean, you know?

Truth is, voting is like finding the screw that fell down the garbage disposal, plunging the toilet, fishing for the diaper that got flushed down into the sump pump, cleaning the deck under the belly of your ZTR, and doing marriage counselling: it’s dirty business that is prophylactic, but necessary. It heads off things that are even worse.

And from here, it looks like Pres Trump is trying to back away from the Project 2025 initiative as well …

What difference would it have made to society if the church hadn’t caved on these issues? Would these legal measures still have passed?

The church wouldn’t have its constantly uneasy conscience on sexuality, and maybe there would be more biblical authority seen in the pulpit.

But in the larger society…?
